Arwa Al Banawi, also known as “the suitable women”, launches her Autumn / Winter 2018 “Beduwins” collection; a line influenced by heritage, identity and modernism.
Inspired by the wave of women empowerment movements, Arwa dug into her culture and the region’s Bedouin history – “no matter how much we travel and live abroad, the need to go back to our source is always at heart, from what we eat to how we dress,” said Arwa.
This collection is an extension of herself: “My home is Saudi, but I spent a large part of my life traveling the world; I am so curious of each city’s street style and youth culture”. Both East and West are represented in this collection, from the 80’s masculine cuts and the boho chic garments to the gold embroideries and the “sadu” fabric. Traditional “bisht” is also introduced in the design, honouring the region’s handcraft. Colours and fabrics are inspired by Saudi’s wildlife – from the desert nudes, reds and silk to the costal blues, velvet and cotton.
